SIGNS OF SEVERE AND COMPLICATED MALARIA
-
Cerebral malaria, defined as unarousable coma not attributable to any
other cause in a patient with falciparum malaria.
-
Generalized convulsions.
-
Normocytic anaemia.
-
Renal
failure.
-
Hypoglycaemia.
-
Fluid,
electrolyte and acid-base disturbances.
-
Pulmonary oedema.
-
Circulatory collapse and shock (“algid malaria”).
-
Spontaneous bleeding (disseminated intravascular coagulation).
-
Hyperpyrexia.
-
Hyperparasitaemia.
-
Malarial haemoglobinuria.
